At Roppongi Hills, EX Theater and other venues in Tokyo
The Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) has announced 2019 dates for the festival and its affiliated market (TIFFCOM). The 32nd TIFF will be held for 9 days from October 28 (Mon.) through November 5 (Tue.) at Roppongi Hills, EX Theater and other venues in Tokyo.
TIFF was launched in 1985 as Japan’s first major film festival and in the ensuing years, has shone a spotlight on exceptional films and filmmakers from around the world. Expanding its programs with a variety of related cultural events, the 31st TIFF drew 236,657 attendees, an increase of 17% over the previous year.
TIFF Festival Director Takeo Hisamatsu commented: “While continuing our existing programs, as part of new initiatives, the 31st TIFF hosted a new highlight event, the Gala Screening, in the middle of the festival period for the first time, making it more festive. We also established a new award for Best Director in the Japanese Cinema Splash section, to encourage new talent. In addition, we implemented exciting “TIFF Plus” events in collaboration with other industries, as well as added the Hibiya Step Square as a new venue. This allowed us to reach expanded audiences, which increased by 17% over the previous year, and to become a more diverse and versatile festival. We will do our utmost to make TIFF even more appealing by further enhancing our program. We look forward to your continued support.”
TIFF remains fully committed to sharing the joys of cinema and cultivating cultural exchanges between filmmakers and film lovers. Our direction is represented by the slogan Entertainment and Art in Symmetry, encompassing our three visions for the festival: Expansive, Empowering and Enlightening.
The TIFF team appreciates your ongoing support and interest in the Tokyo International Film Festival.
See you in Tokyo in 2019!
