Masahiko Tsugawa, the internationally acclaimed Japanese actor and director, passed away on August 4, 2018 at his age of seventy-eight.
Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) had the privilege to screen his directed and starred films in the past.
At the 18th TIFF (2005) his directorial debut fillm under the pseudonym Makino Masahiko, Nezu no Ban, was screened in the Japanese Eyes section and his third film as a director, Penguins in the Sky-Asahiyama Zoo, was shown in the Special Screenings section at the 21st TIFF (2008).
Tsugawa also came to the 29th TIFF (2016) to present the world premiere of his starred omnibus co-production film Asian Three-Fold Mirror 2016: Reflections (in the episode Pigeon (Director: Isao Yukisada) ).
(Asian Three-Fold Mirror 2016: Reflections will be theatrical released at the Shinjuku Piccadilly and other theaters from October 12, 2018.)
